Error - Feature not found occurs when trying to unlock content

In some cases the error "Feature not found" may occur when trying to unlock content. This error indicates that the content that you are trying to unlock cannot be found in Studio.

How you troubleshoot this problem depends on what product you own.

Avid Studio/Studio 16

If you get this error with Avid Studio or Studio 16 it means one of the following is true:

Case 1: You entered a valid activation key for included or supported content that you have not yet installed (Hollywood FX, RTFX, etc.)
In this case you do not need an activation key. You just need to install the content from your installer

Case 2: You entered a valid Activation Key for Pinnacle Studio Bonus DVD content that is not supported. Check the chart in this FAQ to see which content is supported:

Avid Studio Compatibility with Previous Studio Version Content

Pinnacle Studio 16 Compatibility with Previous Studio Version Content

In this case the content will not work in Avid Studio/Studio 16, so there is no need to use the activation key.

Studio 12, 14, & 15
Note: For Studio 15, make sure you have installed the free Bonus Content from the Welcome installation screen. You do not need to use activation keys for the following content in the following Studio 15 versions since it is included for free.

  • Studio 15 HD: Hollywood FX Volume 1, 2, & 3
  • Studio 15 Ultimate: Hollywood FX Volume 1, 2, & 3; Premium Pack Volume 2
  • Studio 15 Ultimate Collection: Hollywood FX Volume 1, 2, & 3; Premium Pack Volume 2; Creative Pack Volume 1

Step 1: Verify if content is installed

Verify that the content you are trying to unlock is actually installed. For instance, if you are trying to activate a Hollywood FX Volume, check in the transition pull-down list and see if the Hollywood FX Volume is listed there.
If you are trying to unlock a plugin category such as RTFX Volume 2, go to Toolbox > Add Video Effects and make sure that the content is listed.

If the content is missing completely, proceed to Step 2.

If you are able to see the content that you are trying to unlock, but you still receive the Feature not found error, proceed to Step 3.
In some rare cases it is possible that after updating to Studio version 12.1 that Hollywood FX 1, 2, or 3; Premium Pack 1 or 2; or RTFX Volumes 1 or 2 may be missing or locked, or you are getting the error "Feature not found" when entering your activation key. In the case of Hollywood FX Volumes the transition category may be shown in the pull-down list, but the Hollywood FX Volume name is missing. In this case, also proceed to Step 3

Downloadable Content
If you purchased downloadable content, it is not enough to just download the content, you have to install it as well. If you are installed the content.

Step 2: Content Transfer Wizard

If it is missing completely, you may not have moved the content into Studio using the Content Transfer Wizard. In Studio 12 it is mandatory to use the Content Transfer Wizard to move any previous content into Studio 12. If you are upgrading from Studio 12 to Studio 14 the content activated in 12 should be available automatically in version 14. If you are upgrading to version 14 from 10 or 11, you will need to run the content transfer wizard. Please refer to the following FAQ for instructions on how this is done:

How to use the Content Transfer Wizard

If this did not help, proceed to the next step.

Step 3: Content Repair
If Step 2 did not help or you were directed to this step from Step 1, the following instructions should help to resolve the problem.

  1. Download the FixMissingPixie.pxm by right-clicking and Save as...
  2. Make sure Studio is closed, and then double-click on the FixMissingPixie.pxm file to run it. You will not see anything run or install, it will quietly add the necessary files.
  3. Restart Studio by right-clicking on the Studio icon and select Run as administrator.
  4. If the content is present, but still locked, use your activation key to unlock the locked content. If you need new activation keys sent to you, follow the instructions from this site: Regenerate Activation Keys. Once the keys are entered, the content should now be unlocked again.
  5. If the content is still missing, browse to the following location:

Make sure Studio is closed, and then double-click on the FixMissingPixie.pxm file to run it again. You will not see anything run or install, it will quietly add the necessary files.

After the files/folders listed above are deleted and FixMissingPixie.pxm is run again, once again restart Studio by right-clicking on the Studio icon and select Run as administrator. Now check if the problem is resolved.
If you are getting a Feature Not Found error specifically with the Winter Pack, please proceed to Step 4.

Studio 10 or 11
If you are using Studio 10 or 11 and are getting this error, install the Bonus disc and then try to activate the content again. The content should now unlock properly.
