Preview problems with H264 video in Avid Studio

There have been some reports of preview problems with H.264 video in Avid Studio. To resolve this problem, try the following:

Fix #1
In some cases it has been reported that after installing the latest graphics drivers from Intel on a Sandy Bridge systems, H264 video decoded in Avid Studio is displayed with green frames. If this occurs, you can resolve the problem by replacing a couple of files with newer versions. Follow these instructions:

  1. Download the file intel_hw_fix.zip.
  2. Unzip intel_hw_fix.zip and extract the following files: H264Codec.ax & MediaSDK_Wrapper.dll
  3. Copy both of these files to AvidStudioprograms and replace the existing versions.

Here are the default locations for 32 and 64 bit Windows versions.

32 bit - C:Program FilesAvidStudioprograms
64 bit - C:Program Files (x86)AvidStudioprograms.

  1. Restart Avid Studio and check if the issue is resolved.

Fix #2
If fix #1 was not successful, try disabling hardware accelerated decoding by completing the following:

  1. Download Hardware_disable.zip
  2. Inside the zip file is a file called Hardware_disable.reg. Save the .reg file to a known location such as your desktop.
  3. Double-click on the .reg file. You may see the message: Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to this computer? Click Yes.
  4. Restart Avid Studio.

If this still does not work, you can re-enable hardware accelerated decoding using these steps:

  1. Download Hardware_enable.zip
  2. Inside the zip file is a file called Hardware_Enable.reg. Save the .reg file to a known location such as your desktop.
  3. Double-click on the .reg file. You may see the message: Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to this computer? Click Yes.
