Error Cannot create a DOM document When Starting Quattro Pro or CorelDraw

Sometimes the error "Cannot create a DOM document. Class not registered. Please ensure that MSXML4 is installed" will come up when launching Quattro Pro or Corel Draw.

Microsoft provides tools such as MS XML for programs to use, and if those tools are not installed correctly, then programs that require them will not run properly.

To resolve this issue please make sure that the MSXML4.DLL library is registered correctly.

Step I - RE-REGISTERING MSXML4.DLL

For Windows Vista and Windows 7:

  1. Click on the "Start" button, and left click on the area at the bottom left that says "Search programs and files"
  2. Type "cmd" but do not hit enter
  3. In the search results above, Right-Click on "cmd.exe" and choose "Run as Administrator"
  4. If prompted to allow this program, hit "Continue" or "OK"
  5. Type "cmd" (without the quotes) in the Run dialog, and hit the "OK" button
  6. Type "regsvr32 /u msxml4.dll" (this command line de-registers MSXML4.DLL) and hit enter
  7. Now type:"regsvr32 msxml4.dll" (DLL is re-registered)

For earlier versions of Windows:

  1. Click on the "Start" button and choose "Run"
  2. Type "cmd" (without the quotes) in the Run dialog, and hit the "OK" button
  3. Type "regsvr32 /u msxml4.dll" (this command line de-registers MSXML4.DLL) and hit enter
  4. Now type:"regsvr32 msxml4.dll" (DLL is re-registered)

You should now be able to run CorelDraw or Quattro Pro if there was no error in the 4th step.

If problem persists you will need to update/install MSXML 4.0 Service Pack 3 then re-register the DLL library

STEP II - UNINSTALLING MSXML 4.0 and UPDATING TO MSXML 4 SP3

You can download this through the following link directly from Microsoft:

MSXML 4.0 Service Pack 3 (Microsoft XML Core Services)
http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=15697

First we want to uninstall any current MS XML 4.0 items that are installed

For Windows Vista and Windows 7:

  1. Click on the "Start" button and go to "Control Panel"
  2. In the Control Panel, choose "Uninstall a Program" or "Programs and Features"
  3. A list of programs will come up. If there are items that say "MS XML 4.0", please right click on each one, and choose "Uninstall", and follow the steps.

For earlier versions of Windows:

  1. Click on the "Start" button and go to "Control Panel"
  2. In the Control Panel, choose "Add or Remove Programs"
  3. A list of programs will come up. If there are items that say "MS XML 4.0", please select on each one, and choose the "Change/Remove" button

When the items are removed, install the MS XML 4.0 SP3 download mentioned earlier.

We will now need to repeat STEP I -RE-REGISTERING MSXML4.DLL

You should now be able to run Corel Draw or Quattro Pro.

If an error occured during the final re-registering step, then there may be a need to look into seeing why the Microsoft XML 4.0 components are not installing properly
