This FAQ covers troubleshooting for errors or crashes that could occur while installing Studio 14 or 15.
1. Disc problems: Please inspect the install disc, checking the disc’s surface for dirt, smudges, fingerprints, etc. Clean off the disc with a soft cloth if necessary. Do not use paper towels or anything that could be abrasive and scratch the disc. Wipe from the center of the disc to the outer edge. Do not wipe a disc is a circular motion. Once the disc is clean, try installing again.
If the disc has scratches, it may still install, so continue with the next step.
If the disc is damaged with deep scratches or cracks so that it won’t install, please contact support for a replacement. The discs are warranted for 30 days and beyond that, there will be a $14.95 charge for replacement discs. Please have your Pinnacle order # or proof of purchase (receipt) from the store available to get a replacement disc.
2. Another Optical Drive: Many systems have 2 optical drives, i.e. a CD-ROM and DVD-ROM/burner. Put the disc that won’t install into the other optical drive, if available, and run the installer from that drive.
3. Restart the computer: In some cases the Installation can crash if Windows Update is running. In this case it is best to restart the system as requested by Windows and then try to reinstall Studio.
4. Startup tasks/programs: No other programs should be running when installing Studio. If you are familiar with MSCONFIG, you can use this tool to disable programs that are running at startup, that could interfere with the Studio installer.
