Cannot Drag and Drop clips from the timeline into Montage drop zones in Avid Studio and Studio 16

This document applies to Avid Studio and Studio 16.

In some cases you may want to take a video clip or photo which has an effect added and add it to a Montage drop zone. Unfortunately it is not possible to do this directly from a movie timeline. This is a limitation in Studio. There are a couple of options available.

Option #1: Export the clip as a project

1. Create a movie project with only the desired clip with the effect added to it.

2. Save that project.

3. Open the original project with the Montage theme.

4. Double click on the Montage to open Montage Editor.

5. Locate the project created in Step 2 in the Compact Library.

6. Drag the project into the desired drop zone.

Option #2: Export the clip as a file

1. Create a movie project with only the desired clip with the effect added to it.

2. Click the Export tab and export the project as a file.

3. Open the original project with the Montage theme.

4. Double click on the Montage to open Montage Editor.

5. Locate the file created in Step 2 in the Compact Library.

6. Drag the file into the desired drop zone.
