WordPerfect Office X5 Service Pack 2 Release Notes

WordPerfect Office X5 Service Pack 2

Suite-wide fixes

  • The enhanced file dialog now retains the last-used order for sorting columns on Windows 7.
  • The LCMS color-management system has been updated from version 1.0.19 to 2.1.
  • Performance improvements have been made to running PerfectScript on multi-processor systems.
  • Microsoft Foundation Class (MFC) DLLs have been updated in response to the Microsoft security warning "Vulnerability in Microsoft Foundation Class (MFC) Library Could Allow Remote Code Execution." See following link for details:
  • The enhanced file dialog has received several enhancements to the folder-tree view (improved speed through asynchronous updates, tooltips with full folder path, and current-folder-only refresh) that can be controlled by users familiar with the process of adding registry keys.
    • Registry location on 32-bit Windows:
      • [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Corel\PerfectFit\15\Advanced HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Corel\PerfectFit\15\Advanced]
    • Registry location on 64-bit Windows:
      • [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Corel\PerfectFit\15\Advanced HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Corel\PerfectFit\15\Advanced]
    • New registry keys:
      • "AsyncFolderInit"=dword:00000001 - set to 0 to turn off new asynchronous file-tree control. (By default, updates are made as information is received from the network; otherwise, the application locks while waiting for all replies.)
      • "AdvancedTooltip"=dword:00000001 - set to 0 to turn off full-path tooltips
      • "RefreshSubfolderOnly"=dword:00000001 - set to 0 to turn off current-folder-only refresh (F5)

WordPerfect fixes

  • TrueDoc font embedding has been updated to account for changes in Windows 7 and Windows Vista, to improve the display of embedded fonts on these operating systems.
  • Program instabilities no longer result from saving with font-embedding enabled after a Unicode font is previewed or embedded.
  • Microsoft Outlook integration has been updated to correct an instability between the Outlook address book and the Routing Slip functionality of WordPerfect.
  • WordPerfect files saved on a Windows 7 NTFS machine no longer lose the file attribute that allows for indexing ("Allow this file to have contents indexed in addition to file"). This issue was affecting the ability of the WordPerfect IFilter to locate these files.
    • To re-enable the attribute on existing WPD files, in the current directory and all sub-directories, use the following MS DOS command:
      attrib -I *.wpd /s
  • Hewlett-Packard Graphics Language (*.PLT) graphic files now import successfully.
  • On some systems, instability was caused by creating an outline with the Display > Numbers option disabled. This now-corrected issue, which could be encountered in several ways, occurred upon generating the main-dialog preview of the outline.
  • The "View in Browser" option can now be uninstalled by modifying the installation.
  • The second-level outline character is correctly maintained when WPD files are opened with the option "Use WordPerfect 5.1 numbering format for letters" enabled.
  • The usability of the Copy/Remove Template Objects dialog has been enhanced with horizontal scrollbars for the Source list box and Destination list box.
  • WordPerfect no longer becomes unstable when the Page Number Format preferences at Tools > Reference > List > Page Numbering are edited.
  • Spell-As-You-Go no longer displays corrupted items in the context (right-click) menu for certain misspelled words.
  • The print option "Document on Disk" does not remain enabled after the Print dialog is accessed from an empty document.
  • Instabilities caused by using an ODBC source via the Merge function have been corrected.
  • Full and All justifications now print as expected, and they publish correctly to PDF even when an end-of-line space is followed by a soft return.
  • Extended characters are now displayed correctly in the Reference Tool text-entry fields.
  • Issues related to creating and editing files on NetWare network drives have been addressed.
  • The "Unsupported file format detected" message no longer appears after files of a non-native format are saved over 200 times during a single session of WordPerfect on Windows 7.
  • Improvements have been made to the Copy option in the WordPerfect file previewer in the enhanced File > Open dialog.
  • TEMP-folder cleanup has been improved. (Temp files were reported as being left behind when multiple files were saved via the FileSave macro.)
  • PDF-output fidelity has been improved.
  • The Tools > Settings > Files option "Use Default Extension on Open and Save" can now be enabled and disabled without error.
  • Data-entry dialog controls have been updated to account for anti-aliased fonts, resulting in improved appearance when highlighted (examples: Edit > Find & Replace; Tools > Reference Tools > Index).
  • The Tools > Legal Tools > Pleading Paper feature now properly accounts for page sizes beyond Letter.
    • This patch updates the file pleading.wcm at the following location:
      • ...\WordPerfect Office X5\Languages\EN\Macros\WPWin
    • For WordPerfect to access this updated file, you must manually copy it to the following location:
      • C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Corel\PerfectScript\15\EN\WordPerfect
  • A refresh issue no longer occurs when a merge is performed with a non-WordPerfect file as the data source.
  • The "Tools > Settings > Files > Merge/Macro > Compile and run locally" feature has been extended beyond macro (WCM) files to include template macros. This enhancement offers more flexibility when using a shared macro / template repository.
  • Long sections of text flagged by Grammar-As-You-Go no longer cause instabilities when right-clicked for suggestions.
  • The "no email program associated..." error message no longer appears when the Address Book is opened. This issue was occurring on Windows 7 even if Mozilla Thunderbird was installed.
  • The keyboard navigation (focus and tab order) for the WordPerfect Address Book has been corrected.
  • Importing a XLSX file via the File > Open dialog now triggers the Import Spreadsheet dialog (as was already the case with XLS files).

Quattro Pro fixes

  • Improvements have been made to the initial display of spreadsheets containing locked titles and an active joined cell.
  • Hiding columns via the Selection properties dialog no longer results in a "SetProperty failed" message.
  • JPEG images with the .jpeg and .jpe extensions can now be imported.
  • Quattro Pro no longer fails when opening non-Quattro Pro files with headers or footers longer than 128 characters. However, only the first 128 characters are imported.
  • Deleting cell names now allows the spreadsheet to be saved without other changes being made to the file.
  • The "read-only file" warning now appears in front of the splash screen even if Quattro Pro loses focus during the file-open process. (Previously, Quattro Pro appeared unresponsive during startup.)
  • Enhancements have been made to the custom numeric time codes for fractional hour (.h), minute (.m), and second (.s).
  • Font properties now apply correctly to Pie Chart data labels.
  • Enabling the "Draw as Descending Axis" option no longer causes the axis labels to disappear.
  • The Currency numeric format now defaults to the Euro currency symbol for the following regions: Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Spain.
  • The import of Excel (XLS) files has been improved by adding image support and by enhancing text-box support.
  • A customer file with invalid string references was causing instabilities upon load. This issue has been fixed, so similar files may now load as expected.
  • The import of Excel (XLS) custom-number formats has been improved by adding support for the leading-zero format (for example, custom format 0000000).
  • A duplicate shortcut key on the Tools menu was corrected.

Presentations fixes

  • Words with extended characters are now checked for spelling.
  • Entering an incorrect filename in the enhanced file dialog now triggers the appropriate error message.
  • A fix now accounts for changes in Windows 7 that were impacting the stability of the Insert > Sound feature.
  • Issues related to creating and editing files on NetWare network drives have been addressed.
  • The WPG file format has been added to the default file-type list for the drawing mode of Presentations.

WordPerfect Lightning fixes

  • WordPerfect Lightning has been updated to account for changes introduced in the final release of Microsoft Internet Explorer 9.

WordPerfect Thunderbird Mail fixes

  • WordPerfect Office add-ons have been updated for use with Thunderbird 3.1.X

WordPerfect Office X5 Service Pack 1

Suite-wide fixes

  • Since WordPerfect Office 2002, the suite has used Kodak Color Management for managing the color profiles used when importing or exporting graphics (or when publishing graphics to PDF). With this Service Pack, WordPerfect Office X5 switches to an open-source color management system (LCMS).
  • The Conversion Utility now opens its Help file correctly on Windows 7 and Windows Vista.
  • In some circumstances, WordPerfect Office applications were not showing as open on the Windows Taskbar. (This issue is now resolved.)
  • References to WordPerfect Office X4 have been updated in the following macros: mastconv.wcm, wp_pr.wcm, wp_org.wcm, and pr_wp.wcm.
  • "File > Send to > Fax recipient" now works on the Windows 7 operating system. (Windows 7 required a different calling method.)
  • Added are the missing registry entries that were preventing COM automation from working. (PerfectScript 15.0 - PerfectScript.PerfectScript)
  • The Insert > Graphic/Pictures command now works even after Publishing to PDF. (This was an issue on multi-core systems.)
  • You can now customize the location of the "WordPerfect Office" Start Menu entries without having them recreated at their default location.
  • JPG images containing the "Orientation" EXIF tag can now be successfully inserted into WordPerfect and Presentations.
  • On multi-monitor systems, WordPerfect, Quattro Pro, and Presentations now recall the monitor on which they were positioned at exit. If the application is not positioned on-screen at exit (such as when a monitor is disconnected), it will be re-positioned on-screen at next launch.
  • In the Web view of the File | Open dialog box, the "Add Favorite" option now allows for the Favorite name to be customized upon creation.
  • Microsoft Office file-type associations are no longer lost when WordPerfect Office X5 is uninstalled.
  • In limited-user mode on Windows XP, object-access failures are no longer written to the Windows security log or the Event Viewer.
  • In the Enhanced File | Open dialog box, the on/off state of the Preview pane remembers its state even when the application is closed.
  • The stability of folder selection in the folder-tree view of the Enhanced File Dialog has been improved by adding checks for incompatible third-party application extensions to Windows Explorer. The folder-tree view can be toggled in the Open, Save, and Save As dialog boxes and is always shown for folder-selection versions of the dialog box (example: Backup Folder selection).
  • You can now copy text displayed in the Preview pane of the Enhanced File | Open dialog box.

WordPerfect fixes

  • For the Greeting Card template (GretCdWP.wpt), changing the front cover graphic via the PerfectExpert panel now works as expected.

  • The Document switcher now displays template filenames.
  • SharePoint integration has been extended to include HTTPS and FTP (in addition to the existing support for HTTP).
  • Integration with Interwoven 8.2.2 Desk Cite is fixed.
  • Links to files (example: file://c:/users/{username}/Desktop/filename.wpd) now work as expected.
  • Instability no longer occurs if the Interwoven ODMA dialog box is open when the computer is locked and then unlocked.
  • A long delay no longer occurs when the date is inserted (Ctrl + D) into a non-empty table cell. Also addressed are the long delays that occur on some computers when text is added to tables.
  • The alignment and spacing of Unicode text in certain imported PDFs has been fixed.
  • Third-party DLLs now load correctly when WordPerfect is loaded via OLE Automation. (WordPerfect.PerfectScript)
  • A custom tray set via Page Definition no longer affects the tray used for subsequent pages or documents opened during the same session of WordPerfect.
  • Microsoft Word files containing the Calibri font no longer import as Calibri Bold.
  • When Microsoft Word 2010 files are imported, text boxes are no longer duplicated.
  • When a document containing multiple images is exported to DOCX format, a "conversion initialization failed" message no longer occurs if Microsoft Office 2010 is installed.
  • Exported DOC files that contain multiple text boxes or graphics no longer invoke an error message when opened in Microsoft Word 2007 or 2010.
  • Publishing to PDF/A-1a no longer displays major preflight errors in Adobe Acrobat 9.
  • The Full and All justification options now print correctly with OpenType and Type 1 fonts.
  • Updated with Web Service and Document Management functions are the WordPerfect.PerfectScript and WordPerfect.PerfectScript.15 named interfaces (Visual Basic, Visual Basic For Applications, Delphi) and the IWPPerfectScript (C++) interface in the WordPerfect 15.0 Type Library.
  • Web Service return data now correctly maintains accented characters.
  • In the Insert | Spreadsheet/Database | Import dialog box, the Spreadsheet data type now supports the XLSX file format by means of the Microsoft Compatibility Pack.
  • A MAPI error no longer appears each time the Address Book is started on Windows 7 computers that do not have a MAPI client installed. Instead of checking for a MAPI client by attempting to initialize MAPI, the Address Book now checks for registry keys that are written by any MAPI-compliant email program.
  • The Web Service feature has been enhanced by fixing some namespace-compatibility problems, improving prefix usage, and adding a diagnostic.

Quattro Pro fixes

  • Launching the Map Expert from the PerfectExpert panel no longer causes instabilities on Windows 7 or Windows Vista.
