No Preview In Pinnacle Studio 19

If you are getting no preview in Pinnacle Studio 19, this information should help.

1. In Pinnacle Studio's Control Panel, use the 'Reset' option, close Studio and Reopen

Or, manually reset via these steps:

  • Close Studio.  Press Windows + R keys together to get Run command box.
  • In the available field type (or copy and paste) %localappdata% and press Enter key.
  • Rename the Pinnacle folder to Pinnacle.old and Pinnacle_Studio_19 folder to Pinnacle_Studio_19.old
  • Start Studio 19

2. Install DirectX

Download and install Microsoft DirectX End-User Runtimes (June 2010):

  • Run 'directx_Jun2010_redist.exe' and extract contents to a folder on your Desktop. Open the folder and run DXSETUP.exe to install DirectX.
  • Once installed, restart the PC.

3. For users with Intel Skylake processors, install the latest Intel Graphics Driver:

4. If none of the above steps help, please replace some files as outlined in steps below:

Close Pinnacle Studio 19

Backup:  Many files will be replaced, so we recommend to backup these folders before overwriting contents with new files.
    • Open C:\Program Files\Pinnacle\Studio 19\ and save backups of the folders
    • \Programs
    • \Plugins

Download the new files: http://cdn.pinnaclesys.com/SupportFiles/Studio_19/Black_Preview_Fix/FixBlackFrameFor19.5.1_64bit.zip

Unzip, and copy the files in \Plugins and \Programs to their respective directories

Open Studio 19.

It has been verified and confirmed that the knowledge base article is valid and accurate.  In the meantime, our engineering department is reviewing this issue.

(Excuse my english level) It's wrote every where it not recommended to install old version of directx ! This could cause instability. I'm on win10 with directx 12, (i5 6400). I paid 100$ for pinnacle studio 19 with no preview. I'm very disapointed.

Not happy Freddy, I do NOT like buying a product in good faith and to have it not work as it was intended. I brought this product for a project in mind, having had Studio 9 & 10 in the past, so I needed the software to work when installed not - who- knows-when. I tried for several days trying to get it going, including downloading a patch, restarting it ( a lot )etc etc. & thinking it was my system. I have tried to contact support but they have yet to reply. Going by the above comments, mine is NOT an isolated incident yet I have not seen a reply to any of the above acknowledging the problem let alone when a fix may be forthcoming.

    NOT HAPPY FREDDY!!!!

I'm having the same issues here. Tried everything.

Let's start from the begining. I have an Asus ROG G551JW with windows 10.

No preview on video, just audio.

Tried resetting the Studio 19, not working.

Tried installing the directX from June, same thing.

Tried changing the name in %appdata% to .old - same thing.

I'm totally pissed off. It's not possible that a company this big as Corel lunch a software that doesn't work. It's not an isolated case so I don't know why you're not fixing this already.

When you are cashing-in our money is totally fine but when it comes to supporting you customers things change at a 90" angle.

I'll never buy again one of your products...

    Hi all,

Firstly this may or may not work for everyone, but it did for me - SO FAR!

First up, I totally uninstalled Pinnacle, that included ANYTHING that said Pinnacle. Did a reboot then made sure everything had gone.

Installed Directx 9 June etc. & again rebooted.

I then reinstalled Pinnacle and again rebooted, and then started Pinnacle.

So far I have NOT changed Pinnacle or Pinnacle_Studio to .old in local appdata.

Another forum indicated that Watchfolders could be the problem so I enabled Watchfolders BUT have put NO folders in there as I have installed a 250gb ssd hhd ( for speed) and will use this for storage of files ( NO automated file watch), doing away with Watchfolders for the time being, as a previous attempt to install folders crashed the program and it came up with "NGStudio stopped working" when I tried to put files into Watchfolders folders.

What I have done may or MAY NOT work for everyone, or be correct, but SO FAR, it has worked for my system.

To date I have not reinstalled the 19.5 patch.

I hope this helps someone and that Corel is taking the problems onboard and comes up with a suitable proven patch that works for everyone.

First of all I have had Pinnacle for years same issues with every version. They say the same thing download an old version of DirectX. It does fix the problem however what are you sacrificing in your system. I just built a crazy gaming pc listed below cost 4k. I render video in seconds however I still have a laggy preview window WTF fix this. Microsoft released DirectX 9 in 2002. This problem has been going on prior to that. People we are talking its been over 14 years and they have not fix this issue. What's that tell you????????????????????? They have no idea what to do about this problem so they tell us to go backwards and load files that were made in 2002 wtf is that. So what have they done and wtf are we paying for? Stupid addons or crappy updates that don't fix the real issue. They have fail all of us as a company and do nothing to correct this. I think we need to go to the BBB and hit this hard even go to the media. They are a huge corporation that are selling programs that ran better on systems prior to 2002. They don't deserve the 100+ for this out of date software. I also love that they don't have tech support and a contact phone number. Lets just guess why…They could not handle the overflow of complaints. Every good company has excellent tech support they fail!

I Have Now Given Up With Corel

I have just bout a super powerful up to date laptop (msi apache pro with 512 ssd i7 processor 970m graphics and 16gb ram) specifically to run what was my favourite editing software pinnacle 19 ultimate because I was so used to the layout and loved it. so now running windows 10 I get nothing but freezes in preview. I have tried everything to resolve the issue from hardware updates, processor updates, I have tried to install every patch on 19 including the 19.5 patch and it won't let me, then I leaned that it is a directx issue, pretty easy then right? um wrong... directx 9 for one will not install on windows 10, whats more I have directx 12 installed and 9 is prehistoric now on windows formats unless we all go back to 2004 or something like that. windows 10 won't accept the directx 9 installation, I even tried many times without success, I have re loaded pinnacle 19 several times inclusing going into files and earasing everything first and even choosing new root folders. Whatever I do I am left with a useless program that is good for nothing, I have just spent £1500 on a new computer for this very software andwould have been looking forward to the next installation perhaps of pinnacle 20. Confidence shot I am going to vegas suite or something that works but going to miss that pinnacle layout which I loved.

    Bonjour Bestfruitico,

I met exactly the same issue than you. I bought the same kind of computer ( ROG by ASUS,1500 dollars) and did the same updating. I downgraded DirectX and followed Corel advice with little success. I noticed that I have no problems of preview with Magix, Nero and Power Director. That means that Studio is THE problem. Waiting for an hypothetical Studio 20, I come back to and work with a previous one PC (with a less powerfull graphical card) and I try to sell my brand new one.

    Hello,
I've had experienced this problem on the same ROG series and tried everything. I mean everything ! Downgrading on windows 10 of directx is not a viable option since it doesn't allow you to install 9.0c.
The only working option is to install Pinnacle, on the desktop icon right click and select integrated graphic card. After the studio lunches go to settings and find the tab import/export and at hardware acceleration be sure to have CUDA selected. Now the preview will work just fine. You will be editing using the integrated videocard but when you will export the material pinnacle will automaticly switch to CUDA and the render time will be on. I'm rendering blurays at best quality 1h of video at 15 m time.
Hope that this will help all of you !

    Best of luck.

    Merci Patrascu,

I just followed your option :  make sure that : 1 - " Integrated graphic card" is selected and 2 -  "Cuda" is also selected.

I did it and  the preview is now correct !

But, checking the different effects of Studio, I met a new problem : impossible to use the "Speed effect". If I select for instance 50%, the work does not start, all the commands are stuck and I must close and restart the PC and check again the integrated graphics ...

    Have you a suggestion ?

In addition to my above comment, the fact is that at each time I start my PC, I must use your option, if not, the preview is again fixed, no motion, only the sound.

    Hello Valais,
You can make the change permanently if you go to nvidia settings, 3d, and then search for pinnacle studio and force the program to start on the integrated card.
As for the 1st problem... I'm sorry but I don't have an answer. I did not tried the speed effect but I'll do that when I'll get home and keep you posted.

Patrascu, Thank you so much! I have been dealing with this issue for well over a month and the 3 support agents I have spoken to have been no help.

I reinstalled Pinnacle nearly a dozen times but your fix seems the be the permanent one!

To give a little more instruction on your steps,

    1. Right click Pinnacle Studio 19 Icon on your desktop

    2. Run with graphics processor -> integrated graphics

    3. Pinnacle will open.

    4. Go to Setup - > control panel

    5. Click the Export and preview tab

    6. Change Hardware Acceleration Type to CUDA

    7. Press Apply and test out your video!

Follow the next steps to make this change permanent. Otherwise you will need to follow steps 1-3 EVERYTIME you open Pinnacle.

The following may only work if you are using Windows 10 with a Nvidia Graphics Card.

    1. Right click on your desktop

    2. Open Nvidia Control Panel

    3. Manage 3D settings

    4. Click the Program Settings tab

    5. Click add and find pinnaclestudio (should be at the top if you are sorting by recently used)

    6. click the drop down and change the preferred graphics processor to "Integrated graphics"

    7. Apply changes and test it out!

Hope this helps someone out and saves them the month of troublshooting I went through!

    Hello Danil,
I'm glad that it works. Trust me, I've been there too, spoke to support agents but no help at all, just the basic reinstall thing :-j.
Also, good update on the tutorial. The guys from Corel should make it a sticky thing on the support page and gave us a work offer :).
    Wish you all the best.

I have installed DirectX End-User Runtimes (June 2010) and it works: Now, I have both Video and Audio.

However; i don't understand that a new Software release  is not compatible with the standard Windows10. Not very consumer friendly.

I have the same problem, only my laptop screen displays everything perfect, but when I close the lid and work on a external monitor, the preview freezes after 1 second. So there must be something wrong with the HDMI-output to the external monitor

    I have the same problem.
    I have Win10 with directX 12.
Recommended solution (install directX 9) is not so clear, because directX has Supported Operating System:
Windows 7, Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1, Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2, Windows Server 2008, Windows Vista, Windows XP Service Pack 2, Windows XP Service Pack 3
It is not supported in Win10.

When I bougth Pinnacle Studio 19 - in the box was notice: Win10 compatible, but in my experiance, it is not Win10 compatible.
